Daniel L. Shores
Daniel Shores is a highly skilled and experienced intellectual property lawyer who handles complex IP matters for a wide range of companies, including emerging tech and biotech companies. Mr. Shores’ practice includes in-depth litigation in the federal courts, due diligence, prosecution, and transactional work.
With experience across a wide range of technologies, Mr. Shores has handled matters involving, but not limited to: medical devices; fiber-optic probes for tissue investigation; genetically modified swine organs for xenotransplantation; interactive media systems for healthcare institutions; interactive media systems for healthcare institutions; identification systems for cable-based medical devices; identification of digital positions of interest on media items; glucose sensing technology; heat-treated glass with multilayer low-emissivity coatings; high throughput genetic seed chipping technology; pharmaceutical treatment of rhinitis with levocetirizine; genetically-modified cotton seed; antimicrobial skin moisturizer; automotive safety technology; grain conveyor belt systems; film scanner technology; elastomeric foam duct lining insulation; pressure-sensitive adhesives; pharmaceutical treatment of hepatitis B with telbivudine; tunable wireless capacitors for cellular phones; mass teleconference software; mobile services network platforms; website auto-complete search features; typeface font software; integrated electronic securities marketplace systems; and webpage incentive programs.
Mr. Shores was an associate at Rothwell Figg from 2004 to 2012. Prior to rejoining the firm as a partner, Mr. Shores was a co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of the intellectual property law firm Shores & Oliver, P.C. He also spent time as an associate at the global law firm Latham & Watkins, LLP. From 2004 to 2012, Mr. Shores served as an executive officer of the esteemed Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court, the nation’s flagship Intellectual Property Inn of Court located at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC.
Mr. Shores regularly participates on panel discussions concerning IP issues. He is a member of the Boston Patent Law Association (BPLA). In the community, Mr. Shores was appointed by Massachusetts Governor Charles D. Baker to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees for Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Mr. Shores currently serves as Chairman of the Board and he and other Trustees are responsible for overseeing the management of the Academy, which has a multi-million dollar annual budget. Super Lawyers® Magazine has selected Mr. Shores for its Boston’s Rising Stars list (2013-2015) and Super Lawyers list (2016-2018) for intellectual property.
Mr. Shores received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he served on the Editorial Board of The Georgetown Law Journal (Law Review). He graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of New Hampshire, where he specialized in materials science and was the team leader of an award-winning senior design project. He is a registered patent attorney licensed to practice before the USPTO, and he is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. He is a member of the Supreme Court of the United States Bar and United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Bar.
